On Thursday, December 10, 1936, King Edward the VIII of Great Britain abdicated his throne. While the broadcast heard around the world originated live in London at 10 pm, it was only 5 pm in Philadelphia. WCAU Radio recorded the speech and replayed it later in the evening for those unable to have tuned in earlier. Here's the announcement by a WCAU staff announcer that preceded the King's address.
