(Left to right) Mac McGuire & Johnny Wilcox
WIP Radio
1946

On the left is Mac McGuire, one of the WIP's top radio personalities of all time. On the right is WIP air personality Johnny Wilcox. Johnny was identified by Broadcast Pioneers member Melvin Gollub who spent many years at WIP as an announcer using the air name, Mel Stewart.

This 1946 picture was taken in one of the WIP studios which was located in the Gimbel Brothers Department Store at 8th and Market Streets in Center City Philadelphia.

The two are standing in front of a "Cavalier Cedar Chest" made by the Tennessee Furniture Company. The Cavalier name comes from a brass figure on the chest of a cavalier dating from the time of Charles IX of France (middle part of the 16th century). The chest was contemporary with the photo and is today considered to be a vintage collectible worth about $500.
