Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1948, Broadcast Pioneers member Jonathan P. Casey (the pseudonym for John S. Placyk) grew to love music at a very young age listening to vinyl records on his RCA Victor record player given to him as a Christmas gift from his father (Stanley), who worked at RCA in Camden.
Upon graduating from high school, Casey enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Vietnam War and quickly became the program director for armed forces radio station WBEL.
In 1972, he joined WSNJ AM and FM as afternoon host and was later named the station's musical director. Casey also hosted a late afternoon show in the 70's on WDVL-FM. He left radio for a number of years to pursue a corporate management career and to raise his three boys (John, Jr., Michael, and Peter), but in 1994 returned to WSNJ Radio as music director and afternoon host of shows such as Rush to Judgement with co-host Mark Lane and the Country Store.
Prior to his death in 2010, Casey could be heard co-hosting The Jersey Boys show on WVLT. Cruisin' 92.1 with the likes of Vineland Mayor Robert Romano, Fred Sharkey, and Racoon Hank as co-hosts. During his 40+ year radio career in South Jersey, Casey was honored to have been able to interview radio legends such as Dick Clark, Hy Lit, Bill Wright, Sr., Jonathan Scott, Nat Wright, Fred Sharkey, Dan Ingram, and Tom Moran.
