On September 26, 1984, the top story of the day on both the 5 pm and 11 pm newscasts on WCAU-TV, Channel 10 was the death of Broadcast Pioneers member John Facenda. At 5 pm, Broadcast Pioneers member Larry Kane gave the Delaware Valley the news.

At 11 pm, the WCAU-TV newscast had Alan Frio give us the details. By the way, the rest of the newsteam at that time was Broadcast Pioneers member Larry Kane, Broadcast Pioneers member Herb Clarke and Broadcast Pioneers member Al Meltzer. Filling in for "Big Al" that day was Broadcast Pioneers member Joe Pellegrino.
By the way, we know the quality of both excerpts is less than desirable. However, it is the ONLY version we have. We tried playing the recording on five different machines, and this is the best quality we could get. The defect is in the tape and not the machines. However, we feel this historic recording deserves to be preserved until a better copy can be found.
