St. Lawrence University's Basketball Team
1946

Take a look at number 17 (back row, second from the left). If that six foot, 4 inch tall guy who weighed 160 pounds looks familiar to you that's because he should. He's Big Al Meltzer. He was a freshman on the team. Al told us that they weren't the greatest team in the world, but then he also said that there were many teams who were much worse. They were somewhere in the middle, he said to us.

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, NY, a county seat with a population of 6,400 people. By the way, the rather new gym at the school has been named after Big Al's coach, Ronald T. Burkman.

Personnel in the photo are:

(top row - left to right) Manager Gibson, Al Meltzer, Carlson, DeStefani and Coach Ronald Burkman

(middle row - left to right) Kuehl, Lawrence, O'Rourke and Van Slyke

(bottom row - left to right) Elmslie, Guardino, Duval, Glenn and Moro
