Which of these 250 seats will be yours?

First, our annual banquet is at one of the most luxurious settings in the area, the beautiful Bala Golf Club in Philadelphia. After leaving Belmont Avenue, you drive down the half-mile private road, lined with trees, shrubs and greenery. Your choice of free parking on the top lot or valet parking in front of the building.

The first room you come to is our beautifully decorated reception area with a delicious crudité table. Over in the corner is a cash bar where you can get almost any drink imaginable. It's 6 pm and the guests and honorees start to arrive. It's like the Philly version of the Academy Awards. Everyone who is anyone in the business will be there. Will you?

You look around the room and you see a TV anchor chatting with some old friends from a couple of the radio stations. Then you spot some advertising agency people talking a little business with station sales reps. You spy a former co-worker from years ago. It's time to catch up with old friends. Multiply this 250 fold and this is what to expect. Pianist Bucky Clark will be there tickling the ivories. The hour goes by so fast that you wonder if your watch has stopped.

At 7 pm, everyone is ushered into the main room where dinner will be served. There's another cash bar at one end of the room, a podium and 250 seats. We start with a salad and the ceremonies begin. We usually start with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" followed by the invocation.

Now we move on to introducing our previous Hall of Fame inductees and former "Persons of the Year." Many are there in the room, maybe sitting next to you. We then induct our 12 posthumous inductees into our "Hall of Fame." After the salad comes the full three course meal. Don't forget the wonderful, fresh baked rolls and bread on the table. About now, the program pauses so you can enjoy your dinner and chat with the people at your table plus the numerous guests that stop by to say hi.

Over a delicious dessert, the program resumes. Next over your choice of coffee or tea, it's time for the induction of Elliot Abrams, Joanne Calabria, Renee Chenault-Fattah, Mort Crim, Gene London, Al Meltzer, Irv Ross and Lisa Thomas-Laury. For each person, we have made a three minute video highlighting their life and career. Each is filled with lots of old photos and clips. After each video, the honoree addresses the audience.

Finally, the moment everyone has waited for, the honoring of our "Person of the Year," Bill Wright, Sr. We watch his video and then listen to a few words from the former WIBBAGE air personality.

At the conclusion of the ceremonies, everyone prepares to head home (or back to work). Of course, there's still lots of people to say hi to. After all, it's kind of hard to speak to every one of our 250 guests, so you pause one last time to greet old friends, get a few hugs and share a few more laughs.

One more thing, there's flowers. Some lucky person will take home those blossoms from their table. It could be you!

Doug Perry, a wonderful journalism professor, used to say "never say a good time was had by all, unless you talked with everyone and know this to be a fact."

A GOOD TIME WILL BE HAD BY ALL - IT'S A FACT!
