(Left to right) Tom Zeigler & Sid Doherty
rehearsing a newscast at WCFC
September 1947

This photo dates from September of 1947 and Sid Doherty's time at WCFC, an FM radio station at 101.3 on the dial. The city of license was Beckley, West Virginia. The station was the state's first FM radio station. The calls now belong to an UHF television station in Chicago.

The FM station went on the air early in 1946 and was owned by Charles Hodel, President and chief owner of Beckley Newspapers. They ceased operations on July 17, 1951 citing economics and turned both their AM & FM licenses in to the FCC. Interesting note: the FM station was on the air first and then the AM station.

In the photo, Tom Zeigler is on the left, and Sid Doherty on the right. They supposedly were rehearsing a news broadcast in WCFC's Studio B.
