Broadcast Pioneers member Jay Meyers serves on the board of directors of WBEB-FM, 101.1, More FM. During the month of October 2015, Jay will be responsible for the day to day operations of the station and is responsible to the board of directors.

Meyers is a 1973 graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia who started his career while in college, as general manager of his college radio station, and as a weekend disc jockey at various commercial radio stations in suburban Philadelphia.

His professional career started after graduation as program director of WCHE, West Chester, PA, a 250-watt AM daytimer outside of Philly. That led him to positions with New Jersey stations WDVL-FM (now WVLT) in Vineland and WBUD and WTTM in Trenton and then WRCP-AM in Philadelphia.

In 1977, Meyers left his hometown to become program director at WVOR in Rochester, NY, which was in last place in the market. In 18 months, he led the station to a first place ranking in its target demo. He then left for WNDR and WNTQ in Syracuse, New York, authoring a format change and a similar turnaround success.

1980 brought Meyers to New Jersey for a three-year stint as Operation Manager for Greater Media’s flagship station, the legendary WCTC in New Brunswick. During his time in New Brunswick, WCTC made the New York Arbitron ratings 12 consecutive times and won numerous NJBA and other awards.

In 1983, Meyers left WCTC for another legendary station, WFIL in Philadelphia where he became program director and led a short-term resurgence of the once dominant radio station, bringing top personality Joey Reynolds (now with the WOR Network) back to the radio business.

In 1985, Meyers became Vice President of Operations for Buffalo based The Lincoln Group, overseeing the programming and operations for their three station group in upstate New York and also handling the programming duties for WBUF in Buffalo, which became number one for the first time in its history.

Late the following year, Meyers made the jump from programming to management as he left to become General Manager for WOJY and WGLD in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his two years at the helm, the stations attained their peak ratings and revenue performances of the eighties.

In 1988, Meyers joined a new company, Atlantic Ventures (later to become American Radio Systems) and became VP/GM of their first acquisitions in Rochester, NY. He changed call letters and formats on the stations (to WRMM/WEZO) and led a resurgent turnaround, toppling the station he built ten years before, WVOR and creating a new dominant station in WRMM.

In late 1990, Meyers joined Sherman Broadcasting as Vice President. The company had been poised for acquisition in 1991, but the recession and some questionable purchases in the eighties caved the company into bankruptcy. Meyers was asked to become President/COO and work the company out of its Chapter 11, which he did, selling the company for three times its assessed 1991 value in the summer of 1994.

At that point, he opened Jay Meyers and Associates, a management, financial and programming consulting firm. His client list included broadcasters such as Legacy, Command, Jacor, Cox, Greater Media, NewCity and CBS, in addition to various banks and financial institutions. He also became a broadcast receiver working with troubled radio loans. In addition, he served as the broker on a number of radio deals for his clients and the banks.

One of the deals he brokered was between a client and Jacor Communications and that led to an ongoing relationship between Meyers and Jacor, which culminated in him being named Senior Vice President of Jacor in April of 1998, taking on the oversight of nearly a third of the company’s operations.

Jacor was acquired by Clear Channel Communications in May of 1999 and Meyers became Senior Vice President of Clear Channel at that time. As Clear Channel grew into the largest radio operation in the world, so did his responsibilities and today they include oversight of nearly 200 radio stations in almost 30 markets throughout the Southeast along with many of the radio division service companies.

He is married with three children and Jay left Clear Channel in late 2005 and formed Cavalry Media Services, LLC with four other partners where he served as Chief Operating Officer.

Today, Jay Meyers is the President and CEO of Broadcast Management and Technology. He is also the CEO of Adelante Media Group, LLC and he serves on the board of directors for R Communications of Texas and WBEB-FM, Philadelphia.
