On Wednesday, evening, October 24, 2007 at 7 pm, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held its 5th annual "Broadcast Careers Night." This time, it was on the campus of Villanova University. College students learned first hand what to expect from a career in broadcasting. They got tips on how to get that first job. They heard from the broadcast professionals on how they got their start.
This informative event was free and was open to all area college and university students, regardless of their school. The event was in the Villanova Room, Connelly Center at Villanova University. High School seniors who think they may wish to major in communications also attended. Over 100 people were there, that's 20% of the entire communication department of Villanova University. It was a wonderful day.
Our moderator was Bill "Wee Willie" Webber, Chairman of the Board of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia and radio/TV personality for 50 years.
Our panel included:
Dan Blackman, Afternoon Drive Air Personality, B-101
Ed Cunningham, producer and air talent at WHYY-TV and WHYY Radio
Pat Delsi, former WSSJ Radio owner and radio/television air personality
John Ogden, Traffic Reporter for NBC10
Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz, Chief Meteorologist for NBC10
Kim Zachary, Human Resources Director for NBC10
It took place on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 from 7 to 9 pm. After the panel discussion, interested students spoke with our professional broadcasters on a one to one basis.
