WCAU-TV
1991

WCAU-TV, Channel 10 in Philadelphia was an owned and operated station of CBS-TV (until 1995). During the 1989 to 1991 era, the Channel 10 news team had several interesting promotional announcements, called promos.

At this time, the station was running a 30 second spot that promoted the news staff made up at that time of Larry Kane, Herb Clarke and Al Meltzer, all members of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. Diane Allen and Terry Ruggles were also part of that team. They had a tune called "Ten People Town" that had a 50's Doo Wop flavor. While these promo announcements did not do much to increase the ratings of the Channel 10 news team, the "Ten People Town" jingle is most memorable.

A sidebar, by the way. At the end of the promo is an ID for CBS. It was normally done by a CBS Network announcer. However, in this case, WCAU-TV dumped out of the network 30 seconds early (pre-empting a network promo) to run their local 10 People Town announcement. Then they ran the CBS identification. However, instead of rejoining the network for 3 seconds, it was better production to just insert the network ID locally. So, Channel 10 had one of their own people record the ID. Listen and see if you can identify who he is.
