November 19, 2004
at the Bala Golf Club
It was a Friday night much like any other, but not for the Philadelphia broadcast industry. On that evening, Friday, November 19, 2004 the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held its 37th annual Person of the Year/Hall of Fame banquet. That night, we honored Harry Kalas as our PERSON OF THE YEAR.
The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia on that evening inducted into our Hall of Fame area
broadcasters John Carlton, Frank Ford, Tom Moran, Vernon Odom and Marciarose Shestack. The group also
inducted the late Gunnar Back, Billy and Dolly Banks, Pete Boyle, Jerry Donahue, Chief Halftown, Doug "Jocko" Henderson,
newcaster Jack Jones and Phil Sheridan into our Hall of Fame.
The dinner was open to all
in the industry and its related fields. Proceeds were used, in part, to fund scholarships to area
college students majoring in communications. Earlier this year with funds raised in 2003, The Broadcast Pioneers awarded six scholarships to
students attending Rowan University, Temple University, Drexel University, Cabrini College and Arcadia University.
Like other years, it was a sellout crowd. Anyone who was ANYONE in the business was there.
We have 33 photos of the event which have been made into a slide show. WATCH THE PICTURES
