PLUS, OUR TRIBUTE TO BOB BRADLEY!
Bob Bradley was living in Clearwater, Florida and died on Monday, June 16th. Bob was our "Person of the Year" in 1986 and is an inductee into our "Hall of Fame."
You always said you wanted an opportunity to meet one of the the top broadcasting moguls who controls what you see on your TV whether over the air or on cable. THIS WAS YOUR CHANCE!
Allen Sabinson, the former senior vice-president of programming for the A&E Television Network and the former executive vice-president of original programming for the TNT Television Network spoke at the luncheon.
He spoke about his time with the TV networks. Before A&E and TNT, Allen served as president of production and television for Miramax Films and the former programming chief for Showtime. He was also executive vice president of movies-for-TV and miniseries at ABC-TV and held a senior management position with NBC-TV.
And as if that wasn't thrilling enough, we added member Fred Sherman, Chief Economist at Royal Bank America and a financial expert on KYW Newsradio into the mix.
This luncheon was just one week away from the next meeting of the Federal Reserve Bank. Fred told us what he expects to happen.
Plus, we had Johnny Lerro, formerly "The Green Grocer®" and current president of M-C Produce Wholesalers, who told us about how to avoid Salmonella during this current outbreak with tomatoes. Plus, he toldl us how save money on produce over the summer. What's going to be cheap and what is going through the roof.
We also paid tribute to Tim Russert, the moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press" for two decades. Russert had been with the network since 1984. Tim died on Friday, June 13th. Make sure to be with us for our special tribute.
If that's not enough, Jane "Pixanne" Norman (also a member) sang a couple of songs. Plus member Bucky Clark at the piano gave us a medley of jingles from commercials of yesteryear. Also, Les Waas (a founding member of Broadcast Pioneers) filledl us in on the latest info about our "Tower of Fame." If you missed his first report, you lost out on a lot of laughs.
This all took place on Wednesday, June 18th, at the beautiful and historic Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue (across the street from the State Police) in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. It's only minutes away from Channels 6 & 10 and the radio stations in Bala Cynwyd.

Allen Sabinson
Be advised that we run two tapes of the event. The first tape ran out about 4 minutes before Allen was finished speaking. The other tape (but not as good quality) was still recording so we switched to that. The second tape ran out about 90 seconds before Sabinson finished his remarks. So we are missing the last minute and a half of Allen's address to our membership.
