Allan Kalish, a Broadcast Pioneer

Broadcast Pioneers member Allan Kalish started his broadcasting career in 1954 at WCAU Radio & TV doing sales.

Kalish was Chairman of AC Publishers, Inc., who published two magazines: “Seven Arts,” Philadelphia’s monthly arts and culture review and Business Philadelphia,” the region’s monthly business magazine.

He was also Chairman of Penn Publishers, Inc., the organization, which publishes the Official Visitors Guide for the Philadelphia Convention and Business Bureau. Penn is also an independent contract publisher of specialized magazines.

Allan was the owner of Kalish & Associates, consultants to marketing management and to advertising agencies.

He was the founder and former President and CEO of Kalish & Rice, Inc., a full service advertising agency whose clients included Strawbridge & Clothier, Philadelphia Electric, Philadelphia Gas Works, Wawa, Pep Boys, Clover Stores, Silo, First Pennsylvania Bank, Armstrong World Industries, Terminex, Trump Castle Casino and many others. He also served a term as President of the Philadelphia Advertising Club.

He has served as a board member of the Police Athletic League, the American Music Theater Festival, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Sports Congress. Kalish was a member of Mayor Rendell’s Commission for the Homeless and board member of Center City District (the organization responsible for cleaning up Center City and for the “Make It a Night” promotions).

Kalish is currently chairman of Trichys (pronounced try-cuss). The company produces extranet services for advertising agencies.

The service is a like an "online filing cabinet," where agencies can update creative work, media budgets, positioning strategies and other work while communicating changes with clients.

Trichys was founded in 2002 and is based in Conshohocken. It got its name from a prehistoric porcupine. The company has 58 clients, about 90 percent are advertising agencies. Local clients include Lorel Advertising, Panzano Partners, Diccicco Battista Communications, the Brownstein Group and Neff and Associates.

Allan S. Kalish was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 1994.
