(Left to right) Dr. Shock & George Benson
WPHL-TV
Saturday, February 11, 1978
Dr. Shock hosted old horror movies on WPHL-TV, Channel 17 during the 70s. The Dr. Shock material was shot on video tape in advance (probably so that the station wouldn't need to have a crew at the station on Saturday). Here's an excerpt of some of the Dr. Shock material from Saturday afternoon, February 11, 1978.
George Benson

George Benson was a local radio personality broadcasting over WIBG and WFIL, Famous 56. George has played the clown for "Kiddie City" and later as Zappo, the Clown.
Broadcast Pioneers member Rick Fox directed all, with very few exceptions, of the Dr. Shock programs throughout the 1970s. Our material is taken from an original 1" video tape master donated to the Broadcast Pioneers by member and former President Dave Abramson. It was the master tape that contained the roll-ins for the one-hour commercial-free special, "A Tribute to Dr. Shock", which was hosted by Rick Fox and directed by George Cummings airing once in February, 1980 on WPHL-TV (shortly after Joe Zawislak's death), and once more in May, 1980. Joe played the beloved Dr. Shock.
