Dann Cuellar grew up in Victoria, Texas and studied communications at Victoria College. He was active in the Drama Club. In 1974, he joined KTXN Classical Hour, first part-time, and eventually full-time.

In 1975, Dann moved to KVIC AM Victoria as a DJ, also responsible for delivering news and weather. In 1976, he joined KXIX-TV where he worked as a reporter (including editing) and a cameraman for 2 ½ years. From 1978-1983, he was a reporter and anchor at CBS KHOU-TV Channel 11 in Houston, before moving to KMOL in San Antonio for the next five years.

Dann Cuellar joined Action News as a reporter in 1988. At 6abc Action News, Dann has covered major local, national and international events, such as the terrorist attacks in 1993 and 2001 on the World Trade Center in New York City; the massacre at Columbine High School, The Waco Siege and the Oklahoma City bombing on the Murrah Federal Building.

Dann also reported alongside U.S. troops on the frontlines of conflicts including the Persian Gulf War in 1991, the Bosnian conflict in Kosovo in 1995, American Intervention in Haiti, and most recently, the war in Iraq. Dann was onboard the “Freedom Flight” to Kuwait after the country was liberated from Saddam Hussein.

Dann was the first to report that the Maryland Sniper suspects had been identified, confirming their names, and the make, model and tags of the car they were believed to be driving.

Dann also covered the following: Phillies World Series 2008, the Mexican Earthquake, the Challenger Disaster at the Johnson Space Center, Sniper shootings at Virginia Tech, Hurricane Irene and others, LIVE in Atlantic City, Ocean City and Trenton, New Jersey, The 10 th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, LIVE from New York City.

In his free time, Dann enjoys going to the gym, jogging, hiking, mountain biking, sailing, swimming and playing racquetball. He is interested in astronomy. He enjoys reading spy novels, and listening to just about every genre of music, from rock to reggae.

On Friday evening, November 18, 2011, Dann Cuellar was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's "Hall of Fame."
