"Market" Program
circa 1968
During daytime hours, WIBF-TV, Channel 29 ran a program called "Market." It aired during the entire time that the New York Stock Exchange was open. Alan Scott, a veteran of Philadelphia radio and television for decades was host and Broadcast Pioneers member Dorie Lenz was the co-hostess.
The live program was a forerunner to today's financial news networks on cable. With much air time to fill, the station interviewed most anyone passing through town. On this one day, it was the United States Senator from Maine, Edmund Muskie. No known recordings of the series exist today since the broadcast was live and on the air for so many hours. It would have been too expensive for the station to preserve them.
While home video taping didn't exist during this era, home audio recording (mainly through reel to reel audio recorders) did. Anyone out there have any audio recordings of the series? If so, we would love to hear from you if you're interested in donating a copy for our DAP, Digital Archival Project.
