Our last luncheon for the calendar year 2013 was on Wednesday, December 18th. It was a Tribute to Sally Starr with guest speakers Jerry Blavat, Ed Cunningham, Charlie Gracie and Chuck Darrow of the Philadelphia Daily News. Plus, an original song about Sally written and performed by Broadcast Pioneers Board Member Paul Big Bear.
Plus, Larry Shenk, Vice-President of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team talked about baseball and the world of sports. He was introduced by Broadcast Pioneers member Skip Clayton, host of the Racing Wrap on WBCB Radio in Levittown. Also on the program was Bill Roswell, Director of Digital News and Media for KYW Newsradio who will be singing a couple of Christmas songs along with playing his guitar. And to close out the program, Meagan Hill, a guest at the luncheon, got up and sang yet another Christmas tune that was received with a standing ovation.
Our MC for the afternoon was Broadcast Pioneers boardmember Diego Castellanos, who is the host of "Puerto Rican Panorama" on WPVI-TV. It's the longest running show of its type. Diego has been on 6abc for 43 years.
It all took place at the beautiful and historic Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue (across the street from the state police) in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. Only minutes away from Channels 6, 10 and 17 and the radio stations in Bala Cynwyd.
