Hit After Hit! Smash After Smash! Blockbuster After Blockbuster! Here's another "monster" lunch where the "stars" don't wait to come out at night. They're there at lunchtime!
"A Tribute to WPEN: The Station of the Stars!" That was our last Broadcast Pioneers luncheon. For three decades, WPEN had the adult radio audience with their "Station of the Stars" format. If you were there, you helped us relive those glory days. It was at the Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 18th (that's the third Wednesday of the month).
Our MC for the day was member Dean Tyler, WPEN's former Station Manager and Air Personality. We had six excellent speakers for your enjoyment. They were (in alphabetical order):
Bob Craig, Ed Hurst, Andy Kortman, Kim Martin, Tom Moran & Bill Wright, Sr.
Plus, live on the telephone, we had Walt MacDonald, traffic reporter for the station and Elaine Soncini, former WPEN Air Personality.
In addition, we had e a special audio tribute the station prepared by Broadcast Pioneers member Charlie Mills. Check out his WPEN: Station of the Stars Facebook Page.
It all took place at the beautiful and historic Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue (across the street from the State Police) in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. Only minutes away from Channels 6, 10 and 17 and the radio stations in Bala Cynwyd.
