Art Ellis is Executive Director, Communications and Brand Management at WHYY, the Philadelphia region’s leading public media organization. As a member of WHYY’s executive management group, he leads a team responsible for strategic communications and marketing, media relations, print and electronic publications, customer service and graphic design for video and print. He previously served as WHYY’s communications director, handling media relations, community outreach events and internal communications. Art has been at WHYY since 1987.
He has also worked in higher education, serving as Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Philadelphia University (formerly Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science), and news bureau manager at Case Western Reserve University. He was first introduced to public broadcasting while editing station program listings at TV Guide.
Art is a past president of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association and its 2013 Hall of Fame inductee. He is also the recipient of six “Pepperpot” awards for excellence from the Public Relations Society of America, Philadelphia Chapter.
He earned the M.S. in Journalism at Northwestern University and a B.A. in Communications from Case Western Reserve University. Art, a Philadelphia native, now lives in West Mt. Airy. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Gershman Y in Philadelphia.
