Broadcast Pioneers member Brian McDonough is a Philadelphia area native. The LaSalle University and Temple University School of Medicine graduate began his broadcasting career within hours of graduating from medical school with health reports on WIP’s old format called “infotainment.” In less than a year he was being seen twice each week on the WHYY television newscast based in Wilmington, Delaware. It was in January, 1988 when he filed his first report on KYW Newsradio. One year later he joined a half hour newscast called “The Ten O’Clock News” on Channel 29. During this period, Dr. McDonough was working hard in his “day job” completing residency and fellowship training in Family Medicine at Saint Francis Hospital and Temple University.

Today, Dr. Brian McDonough continues in his role as Medical Editor at KYW Newsradio and he has been providing the Philadelphia region with daily health tips for over a quarter of a century. He has been named The Jules Bergman Award Winner and National Medical Broadcaster of The Year and has earned The prestigious Walter Alvarez Award for Science Writing. He has been heard since 1996 on hundreds of radio stations throughout the country (including 1010 WINS in New York City) through his syndication arrangement with Coast to Coast Radio Networks. McDonough remained at Channel 29 for over two decades as it grew into a top Fox Network owned & operated station and earned four Emmy Awards during that time.

Dr. Brian McDonough continues to practice medicine on a daily basis. He is Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine and Chairman of The Family Medicine Department at St. Francis Hospital where he also serves as Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO). In addition, Dr. McDonough is a member of The Board of Directors of St. Francis. Some of his medical honors include DAFP Family Physician of The Year and The Sir William Osler Award for his role in medical student and resident education. He has been given awards of recognition by The American Medical Association, The American Cancer Society, and The American Heart Association. He is a Fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians, The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and an ACPE Certified Physician Executive. He is on Advisory Committees for The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, The American Academy of Family Physicians and The American Medical Association.

Dr. McDonough and his wife Diane have three children. Ashleen is a Senior at Villanova University and is majoring in English and Communications. Brian is a Sophomore at The University of Pittsburgh majoring in Finance and Communications. Cristin is a Senior at The Academy of Notre Dame and has an interest in Communications.

On Friday evening, November 22, 2013, Dr. Brian McDonough was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's "Hall of Fame."
