On Saturday morning, March 30, 2019, 60 students were at the Broadcast Pioneers symposium which took place this year at the facilties of WPVI, 6 abc.
We had a 90 minute panel discussion with members of the WPVI staff in which students could ask questions. Afterwards, we toured the Action News studio and the entire facilties of the station.
The panel consisted of Broadcast Pioneers President Pat Delsi, former owner of WSSJ Radio and these WPVI personnel: John Morris, VP of Content & Innovation; Mike Monsell, VP of Audience Development/Promotions; Gray Hall, Anchor/Reporter; Chris Sowers, Meteorologist; Christie Ileto, Anchor/Reporter and Matteo Iadonisi, Community Journalist. Our MC for the morning was Broadcast Pioneers Board Member Leigh Richards, heard regularly on KYW Newsradio and on WMGK. Introductory remarks were by our CEO Gerry Wilkinson, former television producer at WHYY and Operations Manager of WDAS AM & FM.
Many of the students got to sit on the Action News set and read actually copy from that morning's Action News newscast. The material on the video was shot and produced by the WPVI staff.
