The Famous 56, Boss Jocks The six jocks are: Chuck Browning at the top, Jim Nettleton at the left and Dave Parks at the right. The bottom row is (left to right): Jay Cook, George Michael and Frank Smith. According to Gene Vassall, National Sales Manager at that time, he had ordered the picture taken for use on the first WFIL album. However, our copy comes from a photo proof. |
Dave Parks was one of the greatest "Boss Jocks" ever. Dave "The Rave" Parks was one of the original WFIL, Famous 56 Boss Jocks when the station started their rock format in September of 1966. His talent helped the station soar in the ratings. Dave was the late night and overnight guy plus did fill-in when someone was sick or on vacation. Famous 56 became one of the top rockers in the entire country. Other original jocks were Jim Nettleton, Jay Cook, George Michael, Chuck Browning and Frank Kingston Smith. The Famous 56, Boss Jocks "The Pop Explosion" at Famous 56 help blaze the trail for every other rock in the country. Parks also was at WIBG here in Philly for awhile. Dave was with WLEE, Richmond, KWFM, Tucson, WNDE & WFBQ, Indianapolis, KSDO and KLCX in San Diego, WRMF in West Palm Beach and KKBQ in Houston. |
