Powers Gouraud
1950
Powers Gouraud, "The Old Night Owl," began some of his earlier nightly commentary on WCAU radio, which was sponsored by Yellow Cab, with "Yel-low, night owls and night owlettes, yel-low!"
Here's a broadcast that dates from Saturday, April 15, 1950 and featured Ed Sullivan, CBS-TV host of "Toast of the Town." Sullivan who also an avid sports fan and talked about the 1950 baseball series. He didn't pick the Phillies to win the National League pennant, but he said that they would be high in the standings. Of course, the Phils did win that year.
