Broadcast Pioneers member Dave Schratwieser joined the FOX 29 “Ten O’clock News” in 1994 as an investigative reporter.
Like putting the pieces of a puzzle together, Dave Schratwieser investigates a story piece-by-piece until a clear picture emerges. From organized crime and corruption to reporting on the courts, Fox 29, WTXF's veteran crime reporter asks the hard questions and does the research to tell an accurate and fair story. He is well known for his numerous contacts in law enforcement at the city, state and federal levels.
Dave, launched his television career with the New Jersey Network (NJN) as State House Correspondent, Senior Producer and Assignment Editor. While working with NJN, he broke a major story on medical waste being dumped on the Jersey Shore. His hard-core investigative journalism continued at WCAU-TV, a CBS-TV owned and operated station (at that time), where he worked as the New Jersey Correspondent for 6 years. While at WCAU-TV, he reported from Saudi Arabia on Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and was nominated for three local Emmy Awards for investigative, enterprise and magazine format reporting.
Utilizing his proficient journalism skills and knowledge of government, Schratwieser altered his career direction and served as Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. He later worked as Press Secretary and Assistant Director of Communications for N.J. Governor Jim Florio. Then again, as Director of Communications for Attorney General Deborah Poritz. Schratwieser says combining journalism with communication skills was a major asset when he worked in government. In 1994, FOX 29 News offered him the opportunity to return to television as an investigative reporter, he decided to go back to his broadcasting roots.
