Number 87 for the Philadelphia Eagles, Tight End Dick Lucas played four years with the Philadelphia Eagles football team (1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963). Previously, he played a year with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he was number 83 at the age of 24.
He stood six feet, two inches tall and weighed 213 pounds while playing professional ball. Born on Tuesday, January 9, 1934, on the south side of Boston and was graduated by Boston College. He played college ball and the Boston team was called "the Eagles.
In the 1956 NFL draft, we was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 10th round and 119 overall. He played in 12 games on the 1960 NFL championship Eagles team with Tom Brookshier, Tommy McDonald and Pete Retzlaff.
Fifty years ago, the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFL championship with a 17-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Dick was one of the people honored by the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association on Monday, February 1, 2010.
