Broadcast Pioneers member Stephen Gary began his broadcast career playing big band music on WJTO-AM, a small radio station in Bath, Maine. After returning home to New York City for an Army draft physical, which he flunked, colleagues helped him win a stint on the copy desk at All News WINS-AM (sister station of KYW Newsradio).
From there, Steve moved on to the Group W, Washington News Bureau covering Capitol Hill committees, and filled in at the White House and Pentagon during the Detroit riots and anti-war protests of 1967. Steve moved on to KYW Newsradio the following year where he covered the Philly Board of Education and three years later to KYW-TV where he did news and sports reporting and newscast producing.
Moving from the broadcast to the PR side of the street, Steve integrated broadcast media training into subsequent PR positions at Philadelphia-area Advertising/PR Agencies, Earle Palmer Brown, Gray & Rogers, the Gillespie Group and Norton, Lipp.
His diverse background includes having been Manager Corporate Public Relations and Advertising for PECO Energy where he developed and managed corporate sports sponsorship programs with The Phillies and Eagles, Director Public Information, Township of Lower Merion and Acting Director Corporate Communications, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network.
He is currently sole proprietor of Off The Wall Antiques and Collectibles based in Havertown, PA.
