Election Night at WRCV-TV
Tuesday evening November 3, 1964
It's election night on Tuesday November 3, 1964. The Presidential race was between President Lyndon Johnson and GOP challenger Barry Goldwater. Also on the ballot here in Philadelphia was a bond issue. It provided twenty-five million dollars to build a new sports stadium in South Philadelphia. Veterans Stadium would open in 1971, six and a half years after funding was approved.
At the anchor desk you can see Broadcast Pioneers member Vince Leonard. At that time, Channel 3 was owned by NBC and used the call letters WRCV-TV.
