John Rose, a Broadcast Pioneer

Broadcast Pioneers member John Rose e-mailed these autobiographical details:

I was born in Philadelphia in 1960. Grew up in Churchville Bucks County. Went through the Council Rock School District. Attended Bucks County Community College and Temple University; A.A. Broadcast Communications.

Radio: WWDB-FM Talk show producer. Worked with ALL the hosts like Irv Homer, Dominic Quinn, Wynn Moore and Frank Ford. Produced the food and travel remotes with Frank and Mary Jelineck. Went to work for Frank Ford at his talk station WDVT, TALK 900. Also worked nights as a board operator at WFIL radio. Got to meet Jerry Donahue. I even filled in as a talk show at WCTC-AM in New Brunswick NJ.

Television: I was an audience coordinator for two TV shows originating from Philadelphia. First was the short-lived "Jane Wallace Show.” Second was the also short-lived Bill Cosby version of "You Bet You Life." Both shows were taped at WHYY-TV. That was my start in TV.

KYW-TV was starting an early a.m. newscast and re-instating their noon newscasts so I was hired as an assignment editor for the early shift. Working with Gary Geers, Tom Lamaine, Pat Ciarrocchi.

I worked very briefly for NBC-10 and Steve Schwaid before being hired by Tri-State Media or TSM. They were starting a regional newscast and I was hired as the Assignment Manager in charge of 7 local bureaus. TSM (Suburban Cable) was then bought by Comcast and I was asked to stay on help start up CN8 News. I then transferred over to work for Comcast Newsmakers. Two years ago (in 2003) I was offered a job at WPHL-TV as an assignment editor and I've been there ever since.
