The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia

On Thursday, November 16, 2000 at the Bala Golf Club, Josephine (Jo) Oristaglio was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.

She was one of the founding members of our organization and was for many years our Secretary until her death in 1999 at the age of 88. She was also involved with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and served as their Secretary.

At one time, Jo was General Manager of WJMJ (which later became WRCP). This was at a time when there were few females in management.

Then she joined the Remel-Carter advertising firm in Philadelphia where she supervised their transition from paper record keeping to computers.

Jo was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School and West Chester Normal School (now West Chester University). After West Chester, she taught grade school for about five years in Philly.

Jo was part of the managerial staff at WDAS in the forties and took part in hiring air personalities Joe Niagara and Chief Halftown, then a music DJ.
