Broadcast Pioneers was On the Scene to welcome the Fox 29 “Good Day Philadelphia” broadcast team to the Wildwoods on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2014.
On one of the hottest and most humid days of the summer, we welcomed Alex Hulley, new Good Morning Philadelphia co-anchor, reporter Jennaphar Frederick, weather anchor Sue Serio (one of our Hall of Fame inductees next month) and anchor Mike Jerrick.
Member Frank Stone interviewed Mike Jerrick between on-air segments who told Frank, he was jealous he lived at the shore! Frank challenged Mike to a skee ball contest for lunch, but no takers.
The morning included pizza tastings, Wildwood memorabilia from Mariners Arcade, fudge from Douglas Fudge and shirt changes due to the extreme humidity.
We wished Alex Hulley much success in her new position. Arriving on the scene seated in a legendary tramcar, she was tremendously gracious and very crowd friendly to the large number of fans gathered for the broadcast well before the 7 am airtime. We also extended congratulations to member Sue Serio for her induction into the 2014 Hall of Fame. Sue acknowledged her surprise at being selected as well as being humbled and overwhelmed by the recognition.
Wildwood was the first stop on a weeklong tour welcoming Alex Hulley to Fox 29 and the Delaware Valley. A full crew of photographers (camera guys), engineers for sound and lighting plus producers, positioned the Good Morning Philadelphia hosts at the main intersection of the boardwalk at Schellenger Avenue overlooking the beach next to Morey’s Piers and Mariner’s Landing Pier in the shadow of the landmark 156 feet high giant Ferris wheel, one of the largest on the east coast.
