It was an afternoon of memories extraordinare! If you missed this one, your friends are probably sending you an e-mail about it right now!
Well, our September "Third Wednesday" luncheon was a "Double Bubble," two events rolled into one. Our headliner for our "Third Wednesday" luncheon was the amazing and truly fabulous "Charlie Gracie." Charlie is the only person ever to have top 20 hits separated by a half century. In 1957, he had the number one hit "Butterfly" (pushing Elvis out of the top position) and earlier this year, he had a top twenty smash, Baby Doll."
But we started off with a "Tribute to John B. Roberts," He was a former President and Chairman of the Board of this organization. He was also a newscaster on Channel 6 and WFIL Radio for 20 years. John Roberts was the founder of WRTI Radio and co-founder of WHYY-TV and radio.

Introducing our MC and talking a little about upcoming film releases was well-known film critic and star of the syndicated TV series (seen locally over Channel 12) "Flicks," Patrick Stoner, a member of the Broadcast Pioneers. Our moderator for the tribute was Broadcast Pioneers member Ed Cunningham, former Roberts' Student & Producer at WHYY-TV and Radio. Our speakers that day included (in alphabetical order):
Dave Conant, Station Manager of WRTI, the Temple University radio station
Dave Custis, former producer of "Your Hit Parade" radio broadcasts in the 80s
Sam Feinberg, former Manager of WPHL-TV, Channel 17 in Philadelphia
Jane Norman, TV's "Pixanne" and former John Roberts Temple University student
It all took place at the beautiful and historic Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue (across the street from the State Police) in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. Only minutes away from Channels 6, 10 and 17 and the radio stations in Bala Cynwyd.
